Stockport Volleyball wants to take positive action to ensure its players can still compete.  Covid 19 had decimated many a sport and volleyball is no different.  We are arguably one of the fastest growing clubs in our sport in England and the impact has put enormous restrictions on our activities.  It should never be underestimated what a support mechanism the #volleyballfamily has on health, well-being and social inclusion.  Removing these benefits can affect mental health through anxiety and exclusion.  Certainly, the quality of life can reduce.

This Year was to be the best yet.  With aspirations of promotion for our National Volleyball League (NVL) Men, a competitive inaugural season from our NVL Women and a flourishing Academy with potential to challenge in the new format National Competition Two-Tier structures for our Juniors at u16 and u18 ages.

It is understandable, the restrictions that the Government, Sport England and our own National Governing Body have had to introduce.  Leagues have been curtailed and numbers of attendees at anyone time restricted to only 5 players and 1 coach for some ages.  We have beeen fastidious in our protocol towards coronavirus measures.  We do, however, seek to be agile and remain flexible – a philosophy of ‘the show must go on!’

We are loyal to all our members.  With a not-for-profit outlook, genuinely everything we do, we do for those participants and families that we serve.  We deliver programmes from beginners to elite, able bodied to disabled.  Our focus never waiivers and we are especially proud of our mixed gender and multi-cultural base.

England has been hit hard with Covid 19.  More so than other countries.  Some lesser impacted countries are ‘hot beds’ of junior and adult volleyball.  This Campaign is clear in focus. Rather than ‘shut the doors’ we seek to ensure that players can have some optimism and be excited that this Appeal will enable select players or one or more teams to travel, stay and play volleyball as a cherished gift.  Imagine the smiles when players from our cohorts realise a dream has become reality.  The breadth of the ‘party’ size and timing will be based upon the success of this fundraising initiative, timelines, local conditions and the nature of the pandemic.
